Coordinated Education and Enforcement Day along the Pinellas Trail
~~ The Pinellas Trail Security Task Force (PTSTF) law enforcement agencies will be conducting an education and enforcement campaign along the Fred Marquis Pinellas Trail. ~~
PINELLAS COUNTY, FL —- On February 22nd, member organizations of the Pinellas Trail Security Task Force (PTSTF) are conducting a Coordinated Education and Enforcement Day along the Marquis Pinellas Trail to inform users of how to enjoy the trail in a safe and courteous manner and take corrective action, as needed. Police Officers from the cities of Belleair, Clearwater, Largo, St. Petersburg, and Tarpon Springs, as well as Deputies with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, will be on the trail and at key roadway crossings to ensure motorist and trail users are complying with traffic laws.
Over two-million annual users have enjoyed the Pinellas Trail since 2020. While most users have a positive experience on the trail, with more users there has also been an increase in the number of complaints due to user behaviors. The Coordinated Education and Enforcement Day is a response to citizen feedback received from the Pinellas Trail User Survey requesting more enforcement of rules along the trail. It is also a tandem effort with Pinellas County’s ongoing Trail Courtesy Campaign.
In its inaugural event last year, law enforcement officers had over 230 engagements with trail users and motorists ranging from verbal warnings for crosswalk violations, traffic citations and warnings, one arrest, and various educational conversations.
PTSTF is comprised of all law enforcement agencies and County departments with jurisdiction over the Pinellas Trail and meets quarterly to ensure safe and comfortable conditions exist on the Trail.
